Firmly dedicated to the support and development of the best cutting edge electronic dance music, Crosstown Rebels loves quality alternative sounds, adores a great party and thrives on creative, young people armed with something new to say.
As former Head of A&R for London based label, City Rockers, Damian Lazarus was responsible for signing and releasing classics like Felix Da Housecat’s Silver Screen and Tiga’s Sunglasses. Inspired by the new energy in international club culture and keen for some of the new and exciting electronic artists to get the attention they deserve, Lazarus launched his own label, Crosstown Rebels, in 2003.
The Rebels have delivered landmark albums including the ‘Rebel Futurism’, ‘Get Lost’ and ‘Rebel Rave’ compilation series and Jamie Jones’, Glimpse’s and Pier Bucci’s debut albums. They put out some of the first Releases from Kiki and Silversurfer, Matt Tolfrey, John Keys, Jamie Jones and Phonique and classic Releases from Blackstrobe, N/A, Andre Kraml, Minilogue, and Peace Division. The Rebel’s sister label, Rebelone, became an outlet for tracks from bigger artists, released under material-related psydonyms on one-sided white vinyl, of which only 1000 copies of each of the 10 Releases exist.
As true party lovers the Rebels have staged dazzling events across all corners the globe. Some of the highlights include Fabric in London, BPM festival Mexico, Goa in Madrid and Stink at T Bar and DC10. The Rebel Agency forms a family of artists that are sharing their Rebel sound at parties worldwide including a prolific Rebel Rave tour in 2010 crossing the length of America and Europe.
After suffering a knock back due to saw a second distributor’s Crosstown came back with huge Releases from Seth Troxler, Chic Miniature, Luke Solomon and Jennifer Cardini, and the biggest record of 2009 from Jamie Jones ‘Summertime’. They dipped their toes into new musical pools, gave birth to a new digital-only sublabel, CDR, and launched the Rebel Rave films, documenting the Rebel crew’s antics and delving into their musical souls.
2010 has been their best year yet winning praise from all ends of the dance music spectrum and joining forces with dance music’s superpower,!K7 for all album Releases. Unleashing stand apart music from yet more new talent they have discovered including Deniz Kurtel, Soul Clap, Russ Yallop, Maceo Plex and Art Department (who delivered the anthem of the year), the Rebels also created the party of WMC with over 20 artists showcasing their skills at Get Lost.
